Children’s Education

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV)

At Holy Spirit Anglican Church, we value children as active participants in our church life.  For this reason, we welcome children to stay in as much of the service as possible.  However, we do offer children’s education during the sermon for those who desire it. This education is offered by a team of children’s education teachers, men and women who have been called and given gifts for this ministry.  We use a curriculum offered by David C. Cook publishers entitled Tru.  This curriculum is based on the following philosophy:

  1. Family is Primary – that family is the primary teacher of faith to children and the church plays a supportive/equipping role
  2. Spiritual Formation – that this curriculum is about encountering the living God who can shape and transform their character
  3. Holy Spirit is Teacher – that space is given for the Holy Spirit to lead and teach to kids
  4. Authority of Scripture – that lessons come from, are based on, and in accordance with Holy Scripture
  5. The Big God Story – that it is important for children to have a sense of the entire sweep of the biblical narrative, not just isolated stories
  6. God-Centered – the emphasis of lessons is on God’s character rather than the supporting cast in Scripture
  7. Ministry Support – that the publishers regularly offer support and connect churches together to help one another
