“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.” Joel 2:28-29 (NIV)
These words of the prophet Joel were, according to the Apostle Peter, fulfilled on the day of Pentecost, 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus. It is an incredible promise of God, that each of those who follow Him through faith in Christ shall have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That Spirit gives us all the gifts of prophecy, that is, the gift of access to God’s truth and the call to share that truth to the world which God loves. Fully included in this prophecy of Joel are young men and women, and so, it is the responsibility of the church to ensure that youth are built up and equipped in the faith of Christ.
Other than them being a regular and integral part of our Sunday worship and classes, our church is an avid supported of our diocesan youth ministry, Rooted. Rooted offers at least one retreat a year, in the spring, and will also be developing other events to connect youth and youth groups across our area.
