There are multiple ways you can get involved in this church planting initiative that we are embarking on! You can:
Please pray for us! We would not be able to do anything without prayer. This is the foundation of all of our activity, and also the wellspring of our common life in Christ together. Please pray for our families, for God to add leaders, for financial provision, and especially for those far off from God to hear the gospel and to respond in faith.
You can also give towards this effort! Financially, our church plant is receiving funds from our diocese and deanery. I (Fr. Chris) have been officially placed as our deanery “church planting intern,” and as such, our budget for the South Bay Anglican Community is supplemented by the aforementioned funds. This will only last three years, and each year a significant amount of these funds will be removed in stages until we are expected to be self-sustaining. Generosity is part of God’s character, and we know that it is more blessed to give than receive. We have already began receiving pledges from potential members of our community that God is beginning to gather as well! If you would like to give directly, you can write a check out to Holy Spirit Anglican Church and in the memo line please write SBAC (South Bay Anglican Community).
You can also go! If you are feeling called to help assist in Chula Vista as a “core leader,” we can certainly find some time to sit down and discuss the possibility. One of our goals for the year is to pray for God to form a core leadership team of 10-12 people. There are also ways to give of your time and talents as we are already worshipping once a month as a community, walking our neighborhoods, engaging in cross-cultural ministry, and doing block parties quarterly. Some of the generous parishioners of Holy Spirit have already given to us through food for our Alpha program that just finished, and others have helped with child care. We have just submitted a grant application to a provincial ministry of the ACNA, (Anglican Church North America) called the “Matthew 25 Initiative” as well. This ministry funds grants on a one-to-one basis, (We raise one dollar, they give one dollar) for ministries that reach out to the least, lost and the under-resourced in a way that reflects the heart of Matthew 25:31-46. Once we launch this ministry in the future, we will need to form an ESL team, that meets the needs of so many different kinds of people in Chula Vista.
The heart of any church is the people, and our partnership in the gospel depends on the vibrancy and hope of each and every individual that is involved. We couldn’t do any of this work without the wonderful support of the staff at Holy Spirit as well as the gifted and unique individuals God has blessed us all with. Please feel free to reach out any time and come to the Rector’s Forum with excitement to hear what God is doing!
