On that dark night two thousand years ago the heavenly army burst forth in song to celebrate the birth of the eternal son of God. On the occasion of God taking flesh the angels sang,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
(Luke 2:14 NIV)
God had revealed Himself from the beginning to be the God who would stoop low to lift up the sinner and the broken. He committed Himself to Israel even though they deserved no such treatment. He carried their sins year in and year out. And yet, the bending of time and space so that the eternal and temporal would meet in Jesus Christ called for fantastic celebration.
Each year we are wrapped up into this joyous mystery. And each year we have a chance to share it with others. As in years past we will again share this joy through Christmas Caroling on Sunday, December 22nd. As our neighborhood will soon change, this year we will meet at Del Cerro Baptist Church (5512 Pennsylvania Lane, La Mesa) at 5:30pm to then set out into the community around the church. Plan to dress warmly and bring whatever singing voice you have. We will return to the church by 6:30pm to enjoy hot cocoa, tea, and cider. If you would like, please bring some cookies or other treats to share in this time.
Our Christmas services will follow the same schedule we have had for the past few years. On Christmas Eve we will gather at 5:30pm at Bethel Seminary for a joyous service of carols and communion. On Christmas Day we will worship at 9:30am, again at Bethel, to worship the Incarnate Lord on the day of His birth.
